White Oak
Quercus Alba
Fairly abundant in Westford, the white oaks are a mid-sized tree. A main distinguishing feature of this species is the light gray scale-like bark, that is shaggy and appears to be breaking off
Leaves:
Can be identified by their (*usually) deeply divided, rounded lobed leaves. Dull to mildly shiny bright green above, dull pale green to white underside
Acorns:
Ovular ¾ -1” long, light brown with dusty gray film
* Leaves found in shaded parts of the tree do not have deeply divided lobes
