Trees

Conifers are chiefly evergreen trees or shrubs of the class Coniferinae (or group Coniferales), including the pine, fir, spruce, and other cone-bearing trees and shrubs. They prefer acidic soils. They are found all across Westford.

Toothed simple trees are often soft woods found scattered in deciduous forests. They can be found usually at the edge of forests in Westford. Primarily beech, birch, elm, and aspen, these trees all have leaves with one lobe and toothed edges.

Lobed simple trees are usually the hardwoods of deciduous forests. These include, maples, oaks, and sycamores. These trees are found within deciduous forests throughout Westford. Some species, like the Japanese Maple is a foreign tree often used for landscape decoration. All of these trees have leaves with multiple lobes.

Compound trees share the commonality of having leaves with leaflets. Rather than having one leaf at the end of the leafstalk, many little leaves grow from the leaf stalk. Examples would include Horse Chestnut and Ash trees.
