Song Sparrow 

 

Melospiza melodia

Physical description:

Average proportioned sparrows that measure about 5 inches in length. Both male and female are checked brown and white on top of their body with a white underside. They have stout pale-grey beaks. They have a brown streak across the top of their head, with a matching streak coming from the back of their eye extending to the back of their head. They have flat tails. Their wings are often positioned a little off of their body. 

Habitat:

Shrubby areas often near water.

Voice:

Often termed as having the same syllable sequence of: “maids maids put on your tea kettle kettle”.
