Red-tailed Hawk 

 

Buteo jamaicensis

Physical Description:

This is the most common hawk in the area so chances are, if you see a bird of prey, it is a red tailed hawk. Indicated by the name, the rusty colored tail is this bird’s distinguishing feature along with a creamy colored breast, and flecked feathers that are varying shades of brown and gray. Yellow feet and sharp talons. 
 

Habitat:

Deciduous forests and open fields. Often this bird is sighted hunting by circling over an open area
 

Voice:

Hoarse scream
