Pin Oak
Quercus palustris
Mid sized to large tree with dark gray bark that forms deepening ridges and furrows as the tree ages. To differentiate from the scarlet oak (also a member of the red oak family), observe the twigs, as the pin oak has many strong and slender twigs and young branches that are “pin-like”.
Leaves: 5-7 lobes that are deeply divided, ending in a bristle tip. Leaves turn a deep red in fall
