Mourning Dove 

 

Zenaida macroura 

Physical description: 

Mourning doves measure about 12 inches in length. They have very long tail feathers. Their beaks are black and slightly curved downward. Both male and females have a warm brown to greyish brown body. Their wings are flecked black and brown. Males have a shiny blueish grey crown paired with a pinkish breast. Females do not have these colorful feathers and remain matte. 

Habitat: 

Can be extremely varied. From deserts to woods to parks. 

Voice: 

Soft coo similar to an owls.
