Carpodacus mexicanus


Physical description: 

Slender bodied bird with a short stout beak. Females are a brownish yellow streaked with white. Males have a blazing red throat and face, with a brown and white flecked body. Straight long tails. Grey-ish underwing. White breast speckled with either red or brown. Measure about 6 inches. 

Habitat: 

Edges of deciduous forests and bird feeders

Voice: 

Rapid warble with a “jeyee” harsh tone ending a phrase.
