Gray Birch
Betula populifolia
The gray birch is a small shrub-like tree, often with more than one trunk. Trunk is slender and bark is a dull white and does not peel. Bark becomes rough and darker over time.
Leaves:
Small (2-3”) triangular/ kite shaped with toothing along edges (not at base of stem though). Side veins are not parallel, and like other birch leaves, the top is a dark green while the underside is much paler.
