Eastern Hemlock 

 

Tsuga canadensis

This is a mid-sized tree, resembling a shrub when young. Boughs are long and flat with needles growing off both sides. The top side is a deep green while the underside is a little more blue green with a white covering. 

Needles:

Very short, and soft. They are not round but rather flat and wide. 

Pinecones:

Very small (½ -¾”), and generaly grow more toward the top of the tree
