Common Juniper 

 

Juniperus communis 


Usually low spreading shrub found at the edge of deciduous forests. Normally only reach a maximum of five feet. Branches break away from the trunk at a ninety degree angle. Bark can be a reddish brown to a grey, often thin, rough, and scaly. Cones are a hard berry, normally a whitish blue. 

 

Leaves: 

Evergreen needles about a half inch long, yellow-green underside. Awl-shaped and stiff. Jointed at base in threes.
