Brown-headed Cowbird 

 

Molothrus ater

Physical Description:

Mid-sized shiny black bird with a long body (7.5 in) and a dull brown head. Bill is average in length, but wide at the base giving it a conical shape. Eyes and beak are black and tail is relatively short. Females are a flecked brown-gray with a very light gray chin.

Habitat:

Found mostly in or near open fields and edges of forests.

Voice:

You will know if you heard this bird. The call is a very distinct gurgle that almost resembles water dripping followed by a very high pitched squeaky whistle
