Blue Jay 

 

Cyanocitta cristata

Physical Description:

Blue Jays are very large birds that measure approximately 11 inches in length from the top of it’s tuft to the bottom of it’s tail. It has a large black beak. Blue Jays have a distinct light royal blue coloring on their head and neck, and are checked blue, black, and white on wings and tail. They also have a white underside. 
 

Habitat:

Deciduous woods. (Often nicknamed the, “Backyard Bully”, Blue Jays are very territorial and will take over smaller bird habitats in backyards as their own.) 

Voice:

They have a harsh voice often described as a grating “jaaay” or caw.
